The Balanced Man Scholarship is awarded to incoming freshmen who exhibit academic excellence, demonstrate leadership skills, and commit to health and well-being.

The Ancient Greeks believed in developing a Sound Mind and a Sound Body as the way to live a fulfilling life. SigEp adopted this philosophy and since 1990 has awarded the Balanced Man Scholarship to some of the best students coming to campus. Each Fall, the UCA chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon recognizes two UCA freshmen who best represent the ideal of the Balanced Man with a $500 scholarship.

SigEps are encouraged to live a balanced life based on the foundation of the Balanced Man Concept of sound mind and sound body. To do so means to make positive life choices that develop both the mind and the body through avenues such as striving to excel in the classroom and on the intramural field.

To apply for this scholarship, click here.

A number of projects are underway to improve the SigEp chapter home. A professional cleaning crew is deep-cleaning both common areas and individual rooms in the house while the painting crew has re-painted all of the doors and trim. Remaining projects include the purchasing of new chairs for the library and chapter room officers’ tables plus landscaping work in front of the house.

The major project for this summer is the installation of a digital security system which will record all activity on the exterior of the house 24 hours a day. This system has state-of-the-art digital, infrared cameras that can record both day and night. The images will be stored on a 1 terabyte hard drive, allowing extensive data storage for review if needed. The systems’ installer commented, “This system will record all activity outside the house. No one will be able to step foot on the property without being in the line of sight of one or more cameras.”

Musician Corey Smith performed to a near capacity crowd at the SigEp house for the annual Crawfish Boil and concert. The 1 hour, 40 minute concert followed a day filled with more than 1,000 pounds of crawfish, a sand volleyball tournament, and music from area bands.

Brady Sharp, event organizer, declared the day a success. “After many months of planning, we were glad to see the rain subside and the show come to fruition. Thanks to SGA and all of our sponsors for helping SigEp raise over $4,000 for the Conway Regional Health Foundation,” said Sharp.

The event was supported by the UCA Student Government Association and sponsored by Hawaiian Tropic, A&J Collision Repair, and other area merchants. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Conway Regional Health Foundation.
